What Counselling Is
The counsellor-client relationship is just that, a relationship. It is important to feel at ease with your counsellor. It is worth noting that many clients do not return after only one session with any particular counsellor or therapist. Counselling is not a 'quick fix' solution, and often requires multiple sessions before clients feel any benefit in outcomes. No counsellor can make you feel better after just one session. It takes time to build a relationship of trust where you feel comfortable enough to speak freely and be accepted as a whole, without judgement.

What Counselling isn't
It is not the role of a counsellor to provide you with advice, or with the answers to your questions. Do not expect a counsellor to 'tell you what to do' to resolve your problems or concerns. A counsellors role is to walk beside you, to guide and support you as you work towards uncovering the answers you hold within yourself, to be a mirror and a sounding board and provide you with an unconditional positive, safe space to express yourself. You are the author of your own story.

What to Expect
Once you have found a counsellor you are comfortable with, expect to see them over multiple sessions before you experience any real or lasting change. It takes time to work through problems that have sometimes spent a lifetime building up inside you. Habits take work, practice and repetition to change. Often, not putting in the time and work required is the reason most counselling doesn't 'stick' or in some cases, fails altogether. It is not easy or fast, and occasionally, failure is part of the process of learning. What is important is getting back up, and trying again. We are all capable of change.

Treatment Focus
My focus is to help clients heal, energise, and become aware of their inner strengths. This is achieved by providing a safe neutral space, listening to your concerns, and customising a treatment plan just for you. I am able to offer a range of approaches to meet your needs, and provide a safe space to work with individuals, families, and couples. My goal is to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life.
Specialty Focus
I provide services to anyone for any number of reasons, but as the parent of an LGBTQIA+ person, I have a special passion for working with parents, families and friends of LGBTQIA+ people to help them understand what their person is going through, and to assist them to be the best support they can for their person. Research shows LGBTQIA+ people with good support networks are at far less risk of self harm and suicide, and I can help you become that support for your person.
I also have an affinity for working with clients suffering from chronic pain, and provide psychotherapy treatments to help them manage their pain levels. As a chronic pain patient myself, I have an intimate understanding of what such clients might experience. While I can’t take your pain away I can help you cope with it.
